It is possible for a participant to remain on pharmacology therapy for a lifetime. It is also possible for participants to take their recovery to the next level and titrate off treatment medications. If you want to explore this possibility, Duke City Recovery Toolbox in Albuquerque, New Mexico provides the medical assistance, counseling and support you need.
When to Titrate Off Pharmacology Therapy
Years of substance abuse cannot be “cured” in a few months of medication-assisted treatment. Although many participants are eager to be completely free of all substances, we typically only recommend titrating off after certain milestones—to include social, economic and educational with the absence of legal problems—have been achieved.
The Titrating-Off Process
There are two primary concerns when titrating-off:
- Safety
- Relapse prevention
To minimize or eliminate the possibility of withdrawal and/or relapse, the medical team will slowly titrate the dose of your medication. The goal is to reduce your dosage without you noticing much of a difference at all. Every participant responds differently, so the amount of time required to fully wean off medications is different for everyone.
Throughout the titrating-off process, you will continue therapy to identify triggers, develop healthy coping mechanisms and build peer and/or family support.
Start Your Recovery Journey
You can only begin to titrate off of treatment medications if you’ve started. Find out if pharmacology therapy is the key to finally overcoming opioid dependency, drug abuse or alcohol abuse.
