Veterans Affairs (VA) Support Services

Substance abuse is a growing problem among our nation’s military veterans. Physical combat injuries are often treated with powerful opioids that lead to dependency and addiction. Psychological and emotional trauma also contribute to substance abuse as a means of dulling the memories and pain.

Veterans Affairs (VA) has a number of substance abuse resources available, including the option for authorized care from outside agencies, like Duke City Recovery Toolbox (DCRT) in Albuquerque.

Who Is Eligible for VA Support Services

Any veteran who is enrolled in VA services may be eligible for outpatient treatment for opioid dependency, drug addiction and/or alcohol abuse.

The Process for Outpatient Services at DCRT

There is a formal process that must be followed to get recovery services from Duke City Recovery Toolbox covered by VA benefits:

  1. You must get a consult or referral from your primary care provider or behavioral health provider.
  2. DCRT’s clinical review and administration team reviews the referral.

If the referral is approved:

  1. You will be notified so that you can schedule your intake appointment and begin treatment.
  2. VA faxes a Request of Outpatient Services Authorization to our office.

If the referral is not approved, you may still proceed with treatment as a self-pay participant.

Renewing Your Outpatient Services Referral

The VA outpatient services authorization is good for one year, so VA-covered participants must go through the referral process annually to continue treatment under VA benefits. Please see your primary care provider or behavioral health provider no fewer than 30 days before the expiration date of your current referral to get a renewed referral.

If you have any questions about the VA benefits coverage process or about your existing outpatient services authorization, please ask a member of our administrative team. To begin your personalized treatment program, please contact us or walk-in between 6:00 and 8:00 am Monday through Thursday for an intake appointment.

Duke City Recovery Toolbox offers VA Support Services to help veterans battling drug dependency and addiction.
